An easy-to-understand explanation of 'Where do people go when they die?' with illustrations
What happens to the human soul after death?
Even if you usually think 'there is no afterlife', have you ever thought, 'What if there is?'
One reason the afterlife is feared is that 'There are many stories about the afterlife, but since very few people have gone there and returned, it is not well understood.'
Everyone will inevitably face the moment of leaving this world. At that time, what kind of experience will we have?
Perhaps you might think, 'When a person dies and their body is burned, nothing remains,' but that is absolutely not the case.
Let's learn about 'What happens when a person dies' from the case of someone who died suddenly from a heart attack.
1. The soul leaves the body
After the heart stops and a person dies, the soul that resided in the body escapes. Once it becomes a spirit, it cannot communicate with the people around it. Until about the first seven days, it spends time bewildered, observing its own funeral and the situation of its family.
Eventually, as days pass and a certain period elapses, the spiritual body gradually sheds the material aspects of this world. Then, it is said, 'It's about time to go,' and it embarks on a journey to the afterlife.
Spirit line...is what connects the body and the soul, and it breaks about a day after the heart stops. The moment the spirit line breaks is the true death of a person, and there is no coming back to life. As long as the spirit line is not broken, the soul can return to the body and be revived.
The spiritual truth of the first seven days and forty-nine days
It has long been said that there are the first seven days and then the forty-nine days. During the first seven days, the soul generally stays near its home. It often tries to communicate with family members and engages in various activities, making it difficult to leave the house. (Omitted)
For about a week, the soul lives centered around the place of death.
As for the forty-nine days, what happens in the nearly two months after death is that it is generally decided what kind of world the deceased will go to and how they will live. The destination after death is determined during this period of several dozen days.
People who can depart smoothly
Within a week after death, relatives who passed away earlier, such as parents or siblings, come to welcome them.
People who wander as ghosts
If one does not believe in the afterlife at all and does not believe in souls or the other world, they may continue to wander this world without realizing they have died...
2. Crossing the River of Three Crossings to the afterlife
Led by guiding spirits, they arrive near the 'River of Three Crossings'. On the other side of the river, beautiful flowers like rapeseed bloom abundantly, and various people, including relatives and friends, come to welcome them.
Therefore, they may mistakenly think, 'I have come to heaven,' but this area is still the entrance to the spirit world. It is said that once you cross the river, you cannot return, and the River of Three Crossings is 'the world before heaven and hell, the boundary between life and death.'
How to cross the River of Three Crossings
There are several ways to cross the River of Three Crossings.
Some people fly over the river, some cross by boat, some swim, and some struggle while crossing, adapting their style according to their state of mind.
The way one crosses the River of Three Crossings can predict the quality of their subsequent path.
People who can cross the river lightly
Those who lived with a correct heart glide over the river, cross on a bridge, or are taken across by a ferry.
People who struggle while crossing
Those who are attached to money, status, etc. struggle while crossing. At that time, they must drop things that symbolize their attachments, such as bills or business cards.
3. Reflecting on one's life and reviewing one's lifetime
After crossing the River of Three Crossings, there is a building like a movie theater called 'Shoma Theater', where they show 'What would happen if you edited your life as seen through the eyes of your guardian spirit into a digest version of a movie.'
In this footage, not only the actions during life but also everything thought in the heart is revealed. The audience becomes the jury, and based on the content, it is determined whether one goes to heaven or hell.
This is unpleasant for most people. There are many embarrassing scenes and scenes they want to hide, and there are not many scenes they want to be praised for.
Conversely, there may be parts where they seem to be scheming to be praised.
In this way, 'what kind of person I am' becomes clear.
When the screening ends, whether there is applause or silence, by observing everyone's reactions, one can somewhat understand 'which world I should go to from now on.'
In this way, reflection occurs, and the destination in the afterlife is decided.
People who can return to heaven
Those who maintained a pure heart and lived for others during their lifetime are blessed by many and can return to heaven.
Heaven is a world where people who are liked by others exist.
Let us aim to live with a smile, with a sincere heart, being liked by many and being able to love many.
People who are thought to be 'uncomfortable to be around' cannot reside in heaven.
People who go to hell
Those who live selfishly or cause suffering to others go to hell and cannot return to heaven until their reflection is complete.
If the feelings of blaming others or harboring resentment occupy a significant amount of time in the thoughts that come and go in a day, caution is necessary.
Moreover, the feelings that connect to hell lead to "curses" and have a negative impact on others. When you curse someone, you attract "evil spirits" that harbor similar feelings of resentment.
When possessed by evil spirits, negative emotions such as resentment and jealousy are further amplified, and if you continue to live with a negative mindset, you will fall into hell after death. Therefore, it is important to inspect the source of curses, known as the "Six Major Desires," while you are alive, learn how to properly govern and refine your heart.
The only thing you can take with you to the afterlife is your heart.
When you die, the only thing you can take with you to the afterlife is your heart.
You cannot take anything from this world to the afterlife.
Not your house, wealth, clothes, academic background, or status—nothing at all can be taken to the afterlife.
When you return to the afterlife, it is just your heart.
Is your heart beautiful?
Is your heart pure?
Is your heart rich?
Only these questions matter.
Please understand that "when you pass through the gates of heaven, you cannot take anything from this world with you."
I hope you strongly realize that "the only thing you can take with you to the afterlife is your heart, so the various experiences you have in this world are merely materials for polishing your heart."
That is the very purpose of life.
